Tonight - Toby Mac
Forefront Records
Quick Tip: Tonight
provides the encouragement needed to take us on the journey of our days, while giving us both diverse beats and laidback rhymes to provide the soundtrack for that journey. For 21 years (I can't believe it either), TobyMac has influenced music in ways that couldn't have been imagined in 1989. He has defined the term eclectic. He's given us Jesus Freaks that live in his Diverse City. His impact on Christian music specifically is unparalleled. He continues to set the proverbial bar musically and lyrically with
Tonight.
Tonight continues the Toby tradition of fronting the circumstances that face many Christians today. The album, with its bevy of guest appearances, launches on the electric streets with the title cut "Tonight" and finishes on the beaches of the Caribbean with Israel Houghton and "Break Open the Sky." The first single "City on Our Knees" begs the question, "If you gotta start somewhere, why not here?" This is a call to repentance, restoration and righteousness that proposes the redemption of our world, one city at a time. Then just about the time you get used to the groove, you hear track 10 and you start "Wonderin'." This song features Relient K's Matthew Thiessen and has such a happy beat you find your head bobbing in rhythm to Toby's rhyme.
From driving beats and thought-provoking challenges to the trademark inclusion of one track from Toby's oldest child, Truett, aka TruDog, there really is a little something for everyone on
Tonight.
